Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Asia and an excellent vacation spot. However, many people don’t really know much about Bangkok other than the little bits of information that they’ve picked up here and there. When to visit

Bangkok is the hottest city in the entire world. During the hot season of March, May and April, it gets blisteringly hot. If you’re visiting Bangkok during this time of the year, expect to spend a lot of time in pools and air conditioned areas. May through October is the wet season, which often results in flooding and thunderstorms. The coolest and driest time of the year occurs during November, December and January, which is also the most popular time of the year to visit Bangkok.

Many of Bangkok’s most popular tourist attractions are located on the island of Rattanakosin, the historic centre of Bangkok. Rattanakosin is home to hundreds of Buddhist temples; the most famous ones include Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Pho, Wat Arun and Wat Saket. Some of the museums in Rattanakosin include the Corrections Museum, King Prajadhipok Museum, Museum of Siam, National Museum and Silpa Bhirasri National Museum. If you’re looking for shrines and monuments, you’re in the right place; make sure to visit the City Pillar Shrine, Bodhi Court, King Rama III Memorial, Mae Toranee Statue and Mahakan Fort.

A great way to see Bangkok is to take a bicycle tour through the city, or, alternatively, you can take a boat trip down the canals. If you want to be pampered, you’re in the right place; Bangkok is one of the top spa destinations in the world, and there are massage shops located throughout the city. Great places to shop in Bangkok include Siam Square, Sukhumvit, Khao San Road, Banglamphu Market, Pantip Plaza, Silom and Chatuchak Weekend Market. Make sure to try popular Bangkok dishes such as pad thai, tom yam kung, kanom roti and khao man kai before you leave Bangkok.
