When to visit

Paris has plenty of visitors throughout the year, but it is especially crowded during the summer. The most pleasant times to visit are the spring and fall, but Paris is also wonderful in December when the city lives up to its nickname “The City of Light,” thanks to all the holidays lights strung up throughout the city. It may be difficult to find a hotel room in Paris during September and October due to annual fashion shows, and you’ll probably find slightly better rates on airline tickets and hotel rooms in November through January due to the winter.

Exploring Paris

Paris is a great city to explore by foot or by bicycle. In fact, in some places, walking and biking are the best way to get around; the city plans to make some of its districts entirely car-free. Other fun ways to see Paris include taking a boat ride down the Seine or skating, which is legal in many districts. There are four UNESCO World Heritage sites and 3,800 historical monuments located within and near Paris. Most people are unaware of the majority of these historical monuments; they only know of famous ones like the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Basilique du Sacré-Cœur, Pompidou Centre and Arc de Triomphe. Walk off the beaten path a little by looking up some of the lesser known historical monuments and checking them out.

Paris is home to some of the best art museums in the world. Don’t miss out on museums like the Louvre, Musée d'Orsay, Rodin Museum, Picasso Museum, Musée Marmottan-Monet, Le Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Cluny and Centre Georges Pompidou. When you’re not touring, take a break by eating at one of the many Michelin-restaurants in Paris, which is home to the second largest number of Michelin-restaurants in the world.
